A PhD scholarship is available in the Molecular Physiology Laboratory of Prof. Daniel Markovich, School of Biomedical Sciences, UQ, starting any time from 1 July 2010 to the commencement of semester 1 , 2011.

The focus of the Molecular Physiology Laboratory is to study the roles of ion transporters on body homeostasis and pathophysiology. Using several knock out mouse strains, the long term goals of this lab are to determine the function of several sulfate transporters in growth, development, behaviour, metabolism, ageing and cancer. A program of study could involve collaborative projects with UQ Institutes, such as IMB and QBI. The scholarship will provide a stipend of $22,500 per annum (APA 2010 rate) for up to 3.5 yours and is open to both national and international applicants with an appropriate degree in science or medicine (BSc Hons, BSc Masters, MBBS) and an interest in the field. Preference will be given to applicants with a grounding in molecular biology, physiology and/or cell biology. For international students, the scholarship will not cover fees, but the applicant may apply for a UQI scholarship for fee support. Expressions of interest should include a short CV, copy of certified qualifications and the names of three proposed referees, which should be submitted by email to Prof. Daniel Markovich on d.markovich@uq.edu.au by June 30, 2010.
